Jan 16, 2019

Getting diagnosed with cancer is an absolute nightmare. It hits a person like a hammer and it damages them both physically and mentally. It hurts a person’s family just as hard. Seeing a loved one deal with cancer is incredibly difficult. Therefore it’s good to know what to look for and potential cancerous symptoms.

The problem with cancer is that there are just so many versions of it! Abnormal growths can seemingly occur on almost any organ of the body. Some cancers are more dangerous than others, but almost every one of them can be fatal when not treated. Therefore knowledge and information is important to help fight it. The following are common and dangerous types of cancer that people may face in their life.

1 - Bladder Cancer

People who get bladder cancer should be worried, but ready to fight. Unlike many cancers, there’s at least a reasonable survival rate for people who get bladder cancer. The survival rate for bladder cancer patients runs around 70% after 10 years. This is not to say that it’s not serious, but it’s certainly a higher survival rate than some other forms of cancer.

People who may be suffering from bladder cancer will typically see many symptoms. They will often feel the need to urinate frequently. This extends into the night. Often, despite the need to, they may not be able to urinate at all. It’s likely that urination will be very painful or feel like it burns. There’s also the potential for blood to be common in the urine.

2 - Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous types of cancer that anyone may get. The number one cause of lung cancer is complications from smoking, so avoiding lung cancer is both easier for some people and more difficult for others.

Checking for symptoms of lung cancer can be difficult as they may often feel like symptoms of other respiratory issues. Prolonged coughs which will not heal are common. Others may cough up blood in their sputum. There can be severe chest pains while breathing or laughing. Others report a shortness of breath and some heavy weight loss while no longer feeling like eating.

3 - Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer that men can get. The prostate gland produces seminal fluid to transport semen, but it is also very common to find abnormal growths on it. As men age, it becomes more likely that they will develop prostate cancer, and therefore they need to start getting regular checks for it. Most men start these checks at the age of 40, but risk factors may cause them to begin earlier.

People who have prostate cancer may find themselves urinating frequently. This is especially troublesome at night. Men may also find blood in their semen and/or urine. It’s also quite common for a many to start suffering from erectile dysfunction because of it.

4 - Breast Cancer

There aren’t many people who aren’t aware of breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most publicly supported of the cancers thanks to their pink ribbon campaign and how common breast cancer is in women around the world.

Women should perform regular self checks for breast cancer and look for symptoms like swelling (or the distinct lump self checks are designed for), skin irritation nipple pain or even nipple retraction. Any symptoms should be brought up immediately at the doctor’s office for further screening procedures.

5 - Pancreatic Cancer

Another common type of cancer is pancreatic cancer. While not as commonly mentioned as prostate or breast cancer, it can still have very severe consequences to anyone who contracts it. Pancreatic cancer features several common symptoms which tend to always occur.

Jaundice occurs for almost every person who has pancreatic cancer. The yellowing of skin and eyes comes from the excess buildup of bilirubin. People often find that their skin also becomes very itchy in addition to being yellow. Other symptoms include dark urine or light and greasy stool. Sometimes people can suffer unexpected weight loss, nausea, liver enlargement, blood clots and may start having diabetes.
