"Hyperscalers" refers to the largest cloud service providers with data centers capable of accommodating extensive scalability. The major players in this category, collectively known as MAAGs, include Microsoft (Azure), Amazon (Amazon Web Services or AWS), Alibaba (Alicloud), and Google (Google Cloud). Additionally, other notable cloud providers are IBM and Oracle.
  • Private Cloud - This cloud model is perfect for organizations that want exclusive control over their resources in a public cloud. It entails the utilization of servers owned and maintained by the organization, which users can access via a private internal network or the Internet. By opting for a private cloud environment, you gain complete control over data management and security, enabling compliance with specific regulatory and compliance requirements. This compliance includes adherence to standards such as GDPR for data protection, HIPAA for healthcare, and GxP for pharmaceutical industries.
  • Hybrid Cloud - Most organizations adopt a hybrid cloud approach, which involves combining multiple cloud environments. This approach combines public and private clouds, often including on-premise infrastructure. Establishing communication or orchestration between these different deployments is essential to establish an authentic hybrid cloud architecture. Implementing a hybrid cloud strategy allows organizations to break free from relying solely on a single cloud provider and offers them increased flexibility regarding capabilities and security compliance. Previously, choosing a hyperscaler meant selecting either a public or private cloud. However, this is no longer the case. Hyperscalers now offer private cloud carve outs within their public environments to cater to regulatory, performance, and data gravity requirements.

Many companies offer cloud services. Some of the biggest names in the game include: 

  • Amazon Web Services - Amazon Web Services (AWS), provided by Amazon.com, is recognized as the largest cloud service provider worldwide. Operating from its data centers, AWS offers a comprehensive suite of over 200 services, encompassing compute, storage, and database solutions.
  • Microsoft Azure - Azure, a part of Microsoft Corporation's Intelligent Cloud segment, is the world's second-largest cloud service provider. Microsoft Azure offers a seamless hybrid cloud experience, advanced AI capabilities, enhanced developer productivity, and robust security and compliance features.
  • Google Cloud Platform - The Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ranks number three in size for cloud service providers. They offer enterprise-grade cloud services. GCP empowers developers to create, test, and launch applications on its expansive and scalable infrastructure. Additionally, GCP provides robust security, analytics, data management, and artificial intelligence features.
  • Alibaba Cloud - Alibaba Cloud is the fourth-largest provider of cloud services. It does lead in the Pacific regions and serving as China's largest cloud vendor. Alibaba Cloud offers a comprehensive range of cloud services. Some services include applications services, elastic computer, database management, network virtualization, big data analytics, storage solutions, large-scale computing, security measures, and machine learning.
  • Oracle Cloud - Oracle Corporation provides Cloud Services, encompassing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Cloud Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). With OCI, Oracle acts as a cloud service provider, offering infrastructure technologies such as networking services, computing, and storage.
